2019 Confined PVCC TT

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

As per our events schedule the Georgetown Time Trial Series starts on 25th April 2019. - 7.2miles to Houston and back.

Meeting point is Auld's car park in Inchinnan Business park and you should be there and registered with the timer by 6.35pm with a 6.45pm start. You will set off at 1m intervals with the slower riders preferably going off first as this saves time. A charge of £2 is applicable which goes towards the costs of trophies and medals.

We will be splitting the field at the half way stage after 4 weeks to create Group 1 and Group 2 to create more competition.

Watch out for weather updates week by week and also on the WhatsApp group as it may be cancelled at last minute  due to bad weather.

One important thing to note is that this is a busy road and can be dangerous at times. ALWAYS keep your eye on traffic as vehicles will be overtaking riders on the other side of the road and will therefore cross  over into your lane which clearly creates an increased risk to you so watch out for this.

I have attached last year's table for Series B just for newbies to see the timings etc.

As always, ensure you and your bike are well prepared and have fun.

Derek

I am glad the weather was reasonably kind to us on week 1. Although I feared the worst when the thunder and lightning started! Anyway, week 1 results below and well done to those who turned out. Hoping for more next week. Andy McLeod shall be timer but he will require help for hauderupper and back up timer.

On the subject of timing, make sure you record your own time for checking purposes and please keep your wits about you on this road as oncoming vehicles WILL be overtaking other cyclist and will be in your lane!!

So, week 2 completed on another tough night for racing. Fairly strong cold head wind back with rain just to add to the misery 🤢

We welcome Geoff Clark to the TT and he put in a more than respectable first time of 21:25 in these trying conditions. Aidan knocked 47s off last week's time and I surprised myself with 19:28 when I didn't expect to beat 20mins. Dugald also had a good first run of the year after his tendonitis probs so good to see him out again....sub 20 defo on the cards!! Andy and Kev both a little slower than last week, due to weather and fatigue due to other events and good to see Don back in the saddle after his ongoing shoulder issues. Devoid of his usual TT bike and kit he turns up for a leisurely ride on the route to give the legs a wee turn and he puts in a 19:05!! Rips my knitting that does! I thought his basket and paniers would at least have slowed him down a little 😡

Anyway, lets hope for some fairer weather conditions next week. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR FINAL SCORE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR 2 FASTEST TIMES GUYS!! 😉

See you next week speed freaks.....

Sorry for delay in uploading last week's TT results.

This was the first week of fair conditions and this was reflected in the times across the board. Current champion Dave made his 2019 debut with a very good time but not quite his best. Big Andy rode well putting down a PB so he will firmly have sub 17m in his sights now for sure. Cracking ride by Mark Syme with his all time best and Andy McLeod showed us what he can do by knocking over a minute and half off his week 1 time.  Sandy had a decent ride but I am sure he will have sub 19m in his sights soon. Young Kieran also made good strides by knocking 34s off his best to date so he should break the holy grail of sub 20m in no time. PB's a plenty!!.

I think with a bit of warmer air to cut through and favourable wind this week, we may see some more quick times!! Hoping for a healthier turn out this week.

Cheers

Derek

Week 4 saw the temperatures we were hoping for but Mother Nature threw  a beast from the east at us in the form of a strong wind which certainly helped us on the way out but the way back was grueling! 2mins more coming back for me than the outward leg says it all! Anyway times below from the evening. Sub 16 for Dave was a masterclass in TT riding. Big Andy only a couple of seconds off PB and I was disappointed not to go sub 19 but I simply died on the last 1/2mile. Andy McLeod struggled to match his time last week but Sandy put down his best time this year so far. Kieran had a decent ride but again the wind back meant he didn't manage another PB this week.

As per the competition rules we split the field into 2 groups to open up the opportunity for more people to win an award. I have consulted with the committee and it has been agreed to draw the line at 19mins clean as per the last 2 years. The rules remain that you need to post 4 rides total and your qualifying time will be the accumulation of your 2 fastest rides.

Congratulations to the Group 1 riders for their good times, you will receive a reward for this at the AGM.

Next week is the Denia trip where half the field will be going so we will not have a competitive week but I for one would like to do a run anyway so by all means come down as usual if you are not going to Spain. We won't be formally timing it so take your own time.

Ciao for now speed freaks

Derek

Week 5 completed on a bright evening but with a slightly unusual wind direction, more a cross wind than head or tail wind! Anyway 6 riders out and times as follows.

Some good times then with Dave taking 1 sec off for a new PB this year, Mark Syme with an impressive new PB too and good to  see Simon back out on the course again - although he won't qualify for  the competition as you need 2 rides before the split.....sorry Simon. I was intending to ride but a pedal issue gave me a problem with my ankle!!

Timer/hauderupper required next week please. Hopefully we'll get the last 3 rides in over the next 3 weeks.

Cheers

Well that was a first in 2 ways! Firstly, we had a stray Bull on the road which I slowly passed as I was first out, but then the police stopped the next riders and all traffic too until it was under control. I fired on oblivious and Andy and Kev kindly waited for me before starting the watches again for the rest of the guys to go! Then, we had PB's across the board for the guys in an evening of decent riding conditions as the wind did not play a major factor.....for a change!

So, Andy McLeod went sub 19m for the first time ever, Sandy nearly did the same but not quite, I lost time due to the Bull and also being delayed at the roundabout for the first time this year, Dave had a blistering lifetime PB and Matt had a cracking debut ride.

What is really exciting here is the battle for the Group 2 title. As the event is judged on your 2 best rides combined - Andy, myself and Sandy are on 38:20, 38:31 and 38:35 respectively (15s splitting the 3 riders). So, this will be a fight to watch.

See you next week speed freaks

Derek

Week 7 and we have 3 helpers and 3 riders. Andy, Matt and myself took on the course on which had it's prevailing headwind on the way out then naturally a good tail wind on the way back. Both Andy and Matt put good times in but 10-15secs off their PB's. I had an off night as I went off too fast and got a stitch which was very painful and I couldn't shake off so half way out I chucked it and just slow pedalled to the roundabout in the hope that the stitch would clear and I could have a blast back which is what happened. However, towards the end of the long straight I hit a pot hole that I didn't even see as it was very narrow but really deep!  Both tyres blew at 26mph and I was very fortunate to stay upright until I came to a stop. Mark Syme who was at the start rode back out for me and called Dave McCormack to come out and pick me up in his car as I had no tools or tubes on me....naturally!

Anyway, as we know Dave has won Group and Andy stretched hi lead over me to 22secs for the 2 best combined times and 26secs in front of Sandy with one week to go.

I am not 100% if I am competing this week but hopefully we will have the numbers to make it worth while having the last week given the drop off of bodies.

Catch you later

Derek
